Q2 What do you do as a freelancer?

Copywriter for the surfing industry.

Q3 How long have you been doing it for?

8+ years.

Q4 What inspired you to become a freelancer?

The lifestyle (at first).

Q5 What do you think the benefits of being a freelancer are?

No ceiling to your income. Ability to set your own schedule. Being able to really niche down your services. Less admin compared to a small multi-employee business with similar earnings.

Q6 What are the biggest challenges you think freelancers face at the moment?

AI is the most talked about challenge. It will force freelancers into a situation where they need to both diversify and get better at demonstrating their value to clients.

Q7 What do you think is the best resource you have found to use as a freelancer?

Probably paid courses. There are heaps online and the overall quality is good. Other than that, blogs like yours are great too.

Q8 What one piece of advice would you give to other/aspiring freelancers?

Set goals and have a plan but remember that you’ll never move forward if you don’t take action. Start small and figure it out along the way.

Q9 What is your favourite project you have ever worked on?

Tough one. I recently worked for a surfboard brand in Spain that creates hollow-core surfboards made from paulownia timber. That was very interesting. I also worked with a lovely couple who run the Truck Surf Hotel – a truck that travels along the Portuguese coast looking for amazing surf spots with the ability to stop anywhere, transform into a boutique hotel on wheels and post up for a few days. Very cool.
