Liz Doherty
Let’s start with your name…
Liz Doherty
Q2 What do you do as a freelancer?
Creative Direction and Brand Strategy
Q3 How long have you been doing it for?
30 Years
Q4 What inspired you to become a freelancer?
Have freelanced on and off in my career. Currently studying Mastery of Business and Empathy.
Q5 What do you think the benefits of being a freelancer are?
Allows me to research new strategic and creative solutions without the pressure of maintaining a business and staff.
Q6 What are the biggest challenges you think freelancers face at the moment?
A shift in scope from specialist to generalist skills. Age will always be a challenge in creative industries, and that is deeply disappointing. Freelance rates are lower than they were 20 years ago.
Q7 What do you think is the best resource you have found to use as a freelancer?
From a strategy perspective – The Future Laboratory.
Q8 What one piece of advice would you give to other/aspiring freelancers?
Build and maintain long term relationships. Be adaptable. Know when to lead, but also how to follow.
Q9 What is your favourite project you have ever worked on?
Leading a COVID19 Vaccination program for vulnerable populations – the homeless, people in public housing, those with mental health and AOD challenges, CALD groups. Nothing has been more powerful in reminding me just how lucky my life in advertising has been, and that in the face of a pandemic, we’re all vulnerable and communication is key.
