Q2 What do you do as a freelancer?

I am a Motion Graphic Designer and 3D generalist

Q3 How long have you been doing it for?

Over 10 years

Q4 What inspired you to become a freelancer?

I’ve always been on the go, moving from one country to another, changing cities, studios, agencies….Working as a freelancer comes from my nature and makes me more productive.

Q5 What do you think the benefits of being a freelancer are?

I love the flexibility and the fact I can work remotely. A control over my income is the key too. However the most important value is independence and an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, which can keep my work interesting and challenging.

Q6 What are the biggest challenges you think freelancers face at the moment?

At the moment…hmm I think Australia is a lucky country (again) and the post covid instability and global financial crisis won’t affect us- freelancers, however we may experience some fluctuations in our income in 2023. The job market may be a bit limited and more competitive. I think it’s a good time to expand horizons and learn something new.

Q7 What do you think is the best resource you have found to use as a freelancer?

I use Linked in to communicate with potential clients, various Slack channel to chat with professionals from my field, Discord and Reddit to ask for and advice in my field.

Q8 What one piece of advice would you give to other/aspiring freelancers?

Get yourself a professional, visually-appealing portfolio and do a lot of networking both on social media and in person.

Q9 What is your favourite project you have ever worked on?

I had the pleasure to work on the Alien franchise for Audible Studios UK and director Dirk Maggs under the supervision of the movie studio 20th Century Fox. They have turned Out of the Shadows, Tim Lebbon’s book, into a brilliant audio drama. I was brought on board to design & direct a couple of video promos. I still get emails from people who had loved what we did – and it was in 2014!
